Florida students to march on Washington in call for gun reform

Students are planning a "March For Our Lives" in Washington on March 24 to call attention to school safety and ask lawmakers to enact gun control.

Instead of worrying about our AP Gov chapter 16 test, we have to be studying our notes to make sure that our arguments based on politics and political history are watertight.

Yesterday protestors chanted "shame on you" to United States lawmakers and the president.

"Obviously it's something that hits very close to home and the fact that it's so close and the scale of it, it's something that definitely resonates with us and makes it even more tragic", Shpiner said.

A person close to accused gunman Nikolas Cruz called an Federal Bureau of Investigation tip line on January 5, 2018, to report concerns about him, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.

What are the students' plans?

Tributes are being paid to multiple teachers who students say, had it not been for their bravery, many more could have lost their lives. They want other protests to happen simultaneously in other cities on the same day.

Students and neighbours describe the suspect in the deadly rampage at a Florida high school as a troubled teenager who threatened and harassed peers, talked about killing animals, posed with guns in disturbing photos on social media, and bragged about target practice in his backyard with a pellet gun. "I was scared, but I want to support him no matter what because I know he's not doing it for the wrong reason", Bubel explained.

On Sunday, the 18-year-old Gonzalez urged politicians to join a conversation about gun control - citing Trump as well as Florida Sen.

They need to join us, and they need to help us get our message across. Falkowski and other teachers had trained for an event like this six weeks ago because the number of school shootings in the United States have been rising.

Saturday's rally coincided with a gun show in Florida.

James Snead added: "Everything everybody seems to know, we didn't know".

"It's to avoid the unnecessary arduous long painful traumatic reenactment of something that is so horrific the families and the community should not have to relive", Broward County public defender Howard Finkelstein told CNN.

Child services said he had planned to buy a gun, but authorities determined he was already receiving adequate support, the reports say. Trump angered some students by suggesting in a tweet on Saturday that the FBI had missed signs that the shooter was troubled because it was distracted by its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election.

But the FBI's statement is the latest piece of evidence that many people not only saw red flags in Cruz's behavior but tried to report them - and those warnings were not thoroughly pursued or fell on deaf ears.
