Serena Williams back on court with sister Venus after pregnancy break

Serena Williams had said her return to tennis would represent the "start of a long process".

Serena Williams returned to the court for the first time after giving birth to daughter, Alexis Olympia, five months ago to play the Fed Cup in Asheville, North Carolina USA on Sunday.

Williams was left bedridden for six weeks due to a series of complications with Alexis' birth, including a pulmonary embolism that led to multiple surgeries, with her daughter delivered by emergency cesarean section.

"I feel like that's a very good step in the right direction". Williams said she hadn't known what to expect Sunday and acknowledged she needs to improve in all aspects, but she added that "I feel like I'm on the right track". "I'm OK with that because that's just who I am". I've broken down I don't know how many times.

Ever the perfectionist, Williams admitted balancing work and new motherhood is a challenge: "I didn't manage my time well, but I was thinking about it in the future how to manage it better, "she said after the match".
