Dozens dive into cold Deschutes for Bend's Polar Plunge

Dozens dive into cold Deschutes for Bend's Polar Plunge

The annual Polar Plunge supports Special Olympics Texas. Over the years, the plunge has raised as much as $35,000, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman said.

Last year, more than 950 people threw caution to the wind and took the plunge, raising close to $275,000 dollars for Special Olympics Minnesota. Not so when it's for a good cause.

Plungers raise money and awareness for the athletes, and that money goes to year-round sports training and competition for them.

Chris Ballard never tried to persuade Josh McDaniels to stay
Money isn't the only thing that kept McDaniels' from the Colts (especially when considering head coach salaries today). Judge, 36, joined the Patriots in 2012 as an assistant special teams coach under Scott O'Brien.

"Special Olympics is something that is important to us because people aren't known for their disabilities, but for who they are, as special as a person". Overman said the Scottsbluff Polar Plunge is the only event that offers hot tubs - a nice luxury after experiencing the cold water.

Registration is taken at the event, which starts at 9:30 a.m. and the plunge starts at 11 a.m.

This is just one of the fundraising efforts for the more than 16,000 Special Olympics athletes.

Joaquin Phoenix will play Batman villain The Joker in standalone DC movie
Imagine for a moment Phoenix's Commodus from Gladiator speaking with the Joker's singsong voice, and then try not to smile. Sources say the story will take place in the '80s and have more of the look of a gritty crime drama than comic-book movie.

This is the third year for the event put on by The Law Enforcement Torch Run.

In addition to the polar plunge, there was a silent auction, costume contest and fundraising awards.

The Plunge is Saturday, Feb. 24, at Miller Park's lake.

Morgan in doubt for remainder of T20 tri-series
In Hobart three days earlier, England also struggled to score enough runs, posting 155-9 on the way to a five-wicket defeat. Hopefully we can meet Australia and put on a better show.
