Winter Storm Warning continues for much of the region

The winter storm blanketing Chicago has dumped almost 5 inches of snow in Chicago as of early Friday morning, but the latest forecasts are significantly better than yesterday.

United Airlines said on Twitter that travel waivers were in effect for snow-hit areas this week, and Delta Air Lines offered to rebook flights on Friday for 18 Midwest cities.

But Racine County could see up to three inches of snow before midnight. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch are expected. Any minor fluctuation in the storm's track by a few miles to the north or south will shift the narrow icy zone and corridor of heaviest snow accordingly, said AccuWeather meteorologist Renee Duff.

On Friday, the high temperature is forecast at 11 degrees, with a Friday night low of -3 degrees.
