VLC update adds Chromecast and HDR support

Video quality while mirroring, from what we have observed, deteriorate.

The popular cross-platform, open-source video player VLC has received a significant update in 3.0, the first in what will be called the Vetinari branch.

Supports 360-degree video and 3D audio, up to thid order Ambisonics, with customizable HRTF. Version 3.0 is also the first VLC version to sync development between its desktop and mobile ports.

Chromecast support isn't the only new feature included in the update. While the new version brings a lot of new features and functions to the player one key feature that has been added is that VLC now gets a support for Chromecast.

Chromecast support is available via the Playback menu.

VLC also offers better support for Blu-Ray movies. Further Chromecast support will only work on Android and Chromebooks for now. VLC for Android is completely free, has no ads and no in-app-purchases. There were other challenges as well, like the above-mentioned media encoding feature. On Android Auto, VLC can be controlled by a simple UI or even by voice. Then: Open VLC, select Playback Renderer and select your Chromecast device from the list of available options.
