Travel warning as snow and ice forecast for north Wales

The rest of the country hasn't got off the hook as a status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Saturday for the entire province of Connacht as well as Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

Temperatures plummeted to -2C overnight - with both the Gardaí and Road Safety Authority (RSA) warning that many areas would be at risk of compacted snow and black ice making driving surface very slippery.

A wind warning is in place for Leinster, Munster and Co Galway until 8pm on Saturday.

It's said winds will reach up to 55 and 65 km/h with some gusts reaching up to 110 km/h possible.

The Met Office has issued South Yorkshire with a yellow warning of snow and ice, with "frequent, heavy hail and snow showers" forecast over the next 24-hours.

Sunday will be very cold with more wintry showers on the way particularly in parts of Connacht.

Rain will spread from the west to the east. Snow and sleet will fall in many areas as temperatures will drop to -3 degrees again.

Scattered heavy wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow will occur also with some accumulations of snow over high ground. "Lowest temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds".

Tomorrow Sunday will be a cold, bright day with sunny spells. Frost and icy patches will develop also. On Tuesday night, frost and ice will develop for a time.

Met Eireann warned that the wind chill factor will makes conditions appear even colder.

Friday morning will be cold with frost and wintry showers, according to Met Éireann.
