Knicks Trade Willy Hernangomez to Charlotte Hornets for Picks

The will receive a pair of second-round picks and Johnny O'Bryant in the deal that was agreed to the day before the National Basketball Association trade deadline.

Looking at this roster, you start the year with 5 centers or bigs. Thanks to that production, Hernangomez earned a 2016-17 All-Rookie First Team nod alongside Malcolm Brogdon, Buddy Hield, Dario Saric and Joel Embiid.

This news, of course, comes quickly after we laid eyes on a brand-new trailer for Solo : A Han Solo Story. Though some may be excited about the news, people on Twitter were a bit skeptical.

This move could potentially set the Hornets up for another move, though. Hernangomez is on a very team-friendly deal. He is guaranteed $1.54 million in 2018-19 and a trigger date worth $1.7 million in 2019-20.

O'Bryant has played in 36 games for the Hornets this season, and is averaging 4.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game, but Knicks GM Scott Perry has reportedly said that the team will waive O'Bryant. The 6-foot-11 Hernangomez entered the National Basketball Association a season ago with the Knicks and blossomed as the season progressed.

Charlotte chose to buy-low on the promising Spaniard. After shining for the New York Knicks as a rookie, the 23-year-old was unexpectedly lost in the mix of a deep rotation of centers in 2017-18. The only problem for Charlotte is how will they find minutes for him in an already crowded frontcourt? Just a bad move. In Early February, O'Bryant signed a 10-day contract with the Nuggets, before finally signing and extending his 10-day contract with the Charlotte Hornets. He was averaging 4.8 PPG and 2.6 RPG for the team this year. Willy Hernangomez is a solid young player with good potential and definitely won't hurt the Hornets' salary cap. The issue I have is that with Porzingis out, there should be playing time for Hernangomez. O'Bryant has never made a significant impact on the Hornets, and second round picks are worth little to nothing in today's National Basketball Association.

Alabama also will have preferred walk-on Braxton Barker, son of former Tide QB Jay Barker, on the roster this fall. That reflects an increasing challenge to Alabama's dominance on the field and in the living rooms of recruits.
