Unlicensed Doctor 'Infects 40 People' With HIV In India

At least 21 people have been diagnosed with HIV after a fake doctor reused needles to treat flu patients.

A case against quack Rajendra Kumar has been registered in Bangarmau police station, the chief medical officer said.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Unnao Dr S P Chaudhary said a case has been registered against the quack.

According to department officials, Chowdhary was appointed the new CMO on December 28 and since he was aware of the problem, he sent teams to Bangarmau where 566 people were screened at three camps held on January 24, 25 and 27.

Officials informed that a medical camp was organised by the state's health department at Bangarmau in Unnao district on February 3 and during Elisa and other confirmatory tests, 40 persons were found to be infected by HIV. Kumar had allegedly used one syringe on all in the name of cheaper treatment.

The therapy involves a combination of anti-retroviral drugs to suppress HIV and stop its progression. In Novemeber 2017, an NGO organised a health campaign where some people were found carrying HIV symptoms.

HIV - or the human immunodeficiency infection - is transmitted through blood transfusion, utilization of tainted needles and syringes, unprotected sex, or from mother to tyke. "A quack had started this, and police will soon catch him".

In a shocking news that has come to light, it has been discovered that use of a common syringe has left around 40 people infected with HIV.

State Health Minister Sidhartha Nath Singh told PTI, "It was because of the health camps that such cases came to our notice". Action will be taken against culprits & those who practice without the license. Choudhury said that probably led to the spread of HIV. "So we are also mapping truck drivers", he said. The wife of a daily wage labourer, who stopped getting work after this said they suspected "something was wrong" when a large number of people in the village started falling ill, some with prolonged fever.
