Dubai International Airport sees 5.5% increase in 2017 passenger traffic

Dubai International Airport maintained its position as the busiest airport in 2017 for international passenger numbers, with a 5.5 percent increase from the previous year.

India continued to be the single largest source market country with 12.06 million passengers using the airport, up 5.4 per cent. While Indians lead the charts, British passengers followed at the second place with 6.5 million passengers and Saudis taking the third position with 6.4 million passengers.

Markets showing the biggest growth past year were Russian Federation with a 28 percent increase in passenger numbers to 1,339,534 and China which jumped 19.4 percent to 2,212,179. Thailand, bolstered by additional capacity deployed by Emirates, also registered robust growth (+15.2%) with passenger numbers reaching 2.4 million in 2017.

London retained its position as the top destination city with 4,011,598 passengers, followed by Mumbai with 2,477,771 passengers and Jeddah with 2,113,820 passengers.

South America (+36.1%), Eastern Europe (+25.3%) and Asia (+17.9%) emerged as the top regions, predominantly due to the network expansion of carriers such as Emirates.
