London mosque attack suspect wanted to kill Jeremy Corbyn

The man accused of carrying out the Finsbury Park terror attack has claimed the original idea was to kill Jeremy Corbyn, a court has heard.

He claimed he moved into the passenger footwell to change his pants, because he urinated on them "a little bit", adding: "All I remember is peering over the van as he turned left in the collision and I just remember the impact, it reminded me of a Hungry Hippo. and then the door opened and Dave was gone".

The 48-year-old has denied both murder and attempted murder.

Taking to the witness box, Mr Osborne said he met Dave at a pub in Treforest, South Wales, in early April or March past year, while he also met a man called Terry Jones, and that the trio discussed their political views.

He said: "I just thought we were going to postpone things to do something with a bit more substance".

Osborne also claimed that the van he rammed into the Finsbury Mosque worshippers was driven by another person called "Dave", adding that he did not understand why he left the scene.

Taking the stand at Woolwich Crown Court in southeast London, Osborne claimed he had plotted with two men called Terry Jones and Dave to "plough through as many" people as possible at a pro-Palestinian march.

Osborne, who prosecutors said had initially targeted the march, added it would have been "even better" if Mr Khan was also killed, telling the court: "It would have been like winning the lottery".

Mr Osborne alleged that Dave "hopped" inside the van as it drove through a tunnel and switched into the driver's seat shortly before the ramming.

Mr Rees told him: "I suggest that Dave and Terry's participation in these events is a total fabrication - it's a fabrication that came about when you saw the prosecution could prove the case against you".

Safeguard advodate Lisa Wilding QC said to Osborne: "Would you say you were the driver of the van?"

He earlier denied he was the driver of the van - and alleged it was a man he "met in the pub".

According to a statement read by Mr Rees, he asked: "In terms of what happened today, is there anyone else involved?"

Osborne replied: "I don't know".

Earlier, the court heard evidence on whether Mr Osborne acted with accomplices - namely two men, known only as "Dave" and "Terry Jones".

At the end of the interview, Dc Dring asked: "Finally from me, is there anything at all that you know about that could harm anyone?"

Mr Jones stated: "Would you say you were driving, yes?"

The man is heard to reply: "Yeah".

Asked why, he said: "I felt I had to tell the truth".

Osborne precludes the murder from securing Mr Ali, 51, and endeavored murder of "people at the intersection of Seven Sisters Road and Whadcoat Street, London".
