EA Pushes Anthem to 2019, Confirms Battlefield for 2018

The news came during EA's third quarter earnings call. EA's Blake Jorgensen told the WSJ, "It's not a delay".

If you're unable to read the tweet, the note basically states... "People are trying to create a story", he added despite the company themselves announcing it as a 2018 release. The company denies a report in videogame site Kotaku earlier this month claiming the change is due to development being behind schedule. According to Electronic Arts, a new Battlefield is planned for release in October, which it determined would overshadow Anthem, a new intellectual property.

Rather, Jorgensen says that it's the launch of a new Battlefield game that has EA wary of releasing Anthem in the fall. By any standard, that is a delay, even if fall 2018 to early 2019 is not a significant one. He's seemingly playing the semantics game, as Kotaku's sources had indicated that the project is behind schedule. Instead, it's a strategic move to launch the game in a quarter with less competition.

BioWare also recently sent out notice that they're hiring for a number of critical development positions, indicating that the crunch is real.

EA and Bioware will want to take care with Anthem as they're investing a lot of time and money into and hope it turns into a big franchise.

As reported by IGN, all hands are on deck in the production of "Anthem", with all of the major producers and developers of BioWare being heavily involved in the creation of the game.
