Magic Johnson Weighs In On Michigan State Sexual Assault Scandal

During this extremely hard and challenging time for our community, I would first like to express our deepest sympathies, and my deepest sympathies to the courageous survivors of Larry Nassar's abuse.

Friday's bombshell report on ESPN.com came amid a crisis at Michigan State that already has seen university president Lou Anna Simon, athletic director Mark Hollis and gymnastics coach Kathie Klages resign. "This investigation is and will continue to be independent, it will be thorough, it will be transparent, and it will be prompt". Klages asked her gymnasts, some of whom say they were assaulted by Nassar, to sign a card for him.

"The response to this simple request will speak volumes - will speak volumes - about MSU's willingness to cooperate in this investigation".

"The Nassar case is a textbook demonstration of the social conditions that discourage disclosure of sexual abuse", said Haley Halverson, vice president of advocacy and outreach at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, in a statement calling for the resignation of all USAG board members. Schuette said it was their leadership and courage that "opened the eyes of the world to the horrific sexual predator at MSU named Larry Nassar". "They should be the last ones providing advice given their conduct throughout this entire episode". Once the investigation is concluded, Schuette said, the report will be available to the public. This will be done right.

Winter Weather Advisory issued in parts of northern West Virginia
After this brief burst of snow, the region's next shot at wintry precipitation comes Thursday into Friday. The alert - issued by the city, not the National Weather Service - doesn't guarantee snow will fall.

In December, the MSU Board of Trustees announced its creation of a $10 million fund for victims of Nassar, as a way to show the university's "concern for and commitment to these fearless young women".

The NCAA and state of Michigan have launched investigations into allegations that Michigan State employees knew of Nassar's abuse years before his firing.

"Truth and justice are the bedrock of any investigation, and that is the philosophy I will bring to this case", Forsyth said.

Forsyth will work full time on the investigation.

China's new Arctic policy sheds light on Polar Silk Road
President Vladimir Putin inaugurated in December the Arctic a plant that plans to export gas to countries as far away as Spain. This will be done jointly with the "Arctic" countries, "respecting their traditions and cultural peculiarities".

"(Sexual assault involving athletes as the alleged assailant) would be handled in-house.

Nassar, 54, on Wednesday was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison, following a weeklong court hearing that saw more than 150 of his victims, including some of the sport's biggest names, publicly describe his assaults.

He said Saturday that he didn't need advice about how to handle the investigation from the board due to their conduct during the situation.

"We've got to get to work, we literally have thousands of police reports to review", Etue said.

At least 5 police officers killed in Colombia bombing
The individual was found near the site of the bombing with radio equipment and plans of the police station. Authorities are offering an $18,000 reward for information on those responsible for the attack.

Nassar's victims "need to know that their voices are being heard, being listened to, and being acted upon", the attorney general said.
