Aadhaar helped in securing rights of poor: President Kovind

The President Ram Nath Kovind in today's budget session address said that I hope soon the Triple Talaq bill will be passed by the government so that Muslim women can live their life without fear and dignity.

Kovind said this in his customary address at a joint session of Parliament at the beginning of budget session.

The President said the internal security situation has improved in the country.

He further shed light on the admirable efforts in electronics manufacturing sector and said that there are 113 mobile companies in India, which stood at number two in 2014.

He noted that as a result of government?s policies and the hardwork of farmers, a record production of more than 275 million tonnes of food grain and about 300 million tonnes of horticultural produce have been achieved in the country.

He also referred to the government's work towards stopping the open defecation in the country.

President Ram Nath Kovind said on Monday there has been a new found respect for India because of the government's "successful diplomatic efforts".

President Kovind said that the Government has increased minimum wage of labourers by more than 40 per cent. "Our target is to provide road connectivity to every village by 2019", he added. He said we will soon realise the dream of New India vision in 2018. He said the work on providing power to 18,000 un-electrified villages has neared completion. FDI from the United States increased from $36 billion to $60 during the last three years, for which the president credited "appropriate policies" made by the government. The second quarter of 2017-2018, however, has seen a reversal of this trend. "In the last 3 and a half years, the rate of inflation, as well as Government's fiscal and current account deficits, have, on an average, shown a decline", he said.
