"We have always said that Robin is more than welcome at Feyenoord and we are very happy that he now joins the squad", said Van Geel at the signing ceremony. It is great and special that, after Dirk Kuyt and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, to name but a few, another icon is returning to Feyenoord. "Van Persie soon became a first-team regular and won a UEFA Cup medal in his debut season".

The reigning Eredivisie champions will be hoping that the return of Van Persie, Holland's all-time top goalscorer, can revitalise their season after a disappointing campaign to date.
