UK drivers warned of icy conditions as wintry weather continues

It read: "The snow is more likely to affect higher routes with lower levels only affected more locally". Ice is expected to occur on pavements, cycle paths as well as roads which may result in some disruption in journeys.

The Met Office's chief forecaster said most of the snow will fall on higher ground and snowfall will vary considerably across the warning area.

She added: "I would like to make it clear that there is a high risk of disruption for road journeys and with that comes a high likelihood of the conditions being very poor, therefore I would ask people whether their journey is really necessary?"

In Northern Ireland, icy patches are likely as the rain falls onto the freezing ground.

Tuesday could become slightly more windy with some rain likely to douse the west, but conditions on the whole will remain mild. "On higher road routes, expect hard driving conditions with snow accumulating".
