Instead, the club have turned to Roma's Palmieri, who is said to be available for £20m this month.

However, Mediaset Premium claims that Chelsea have also held discussions over a potential move for Dzeko before the month is out, although Roma want to hang on to the player.

His agent Fernando Garcia said: "Of course yes, absolutely, the two clubs are now talking, we'll see if it will be successful".

The 23-year-old has only recently returned from a serious knee ligament injury sustained last May and has found himself acting as a deputy for Aleksandar Kolarov.

"Obviously, Emerson would love to play in the Premier League and it'd be a dream to work with Conte, as he is among the best Coaches in the world".

Chelsea have offered €50m for both Emerson Palmieri and Dzeko, whereas Roma are asking for a series of bonuses that would take the total sum up to €65m. If the Premier League champions do secure the signature of a left-back before the close of the January transfer window, Kenedy is likely to depart on loan until the end of the season.
