Winter Storm Warning Issued As Temps Dip, Snow In Sight

Freezing rain and sleet will change to snow and snow accumulations will average 2 to 4 inches later Friday into Friday night.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning through Friday night for most of southern IN, with up to 5 inches of snow and some ice accumulation forecast. This will be the start of another extended streak of days with temperatures below freezing. Low pressure is expected to develop along the front and enhance the precipitation across northeast OH and northwest Pennsylvania.

Power outages have been reported in IN and Kentucky.

Winter weather warnings are in effect from the Great Lakes down the Mississippi Valley, to the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys, and all the way to New England, reports.

"An end to the brief January thaw sweeps east for this weekend", the National Weather Service said. Snow accumulations of one to three inches will be possible. That water won't have anywhere to go because the soil will be too frozen to absorb it.

The warning is for Chautauqua and southern Erie counties from 1 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday.
