At least one store trashed as protests hit H&M stores in SA

The store has closed and no injuries have been reported.

The H&M store has remained closed since then.

When a person on social media pulled H&M up on the issue, they responded with: "H&M's marketing has a major impact and it is essential for us to convey a positive image".

Despite rumours on social media, at no point was the mall shut down, and at no point did their march turn violent.

The ad in question featured a black child wearing a green hoodie with the phrase "coolest monkey in the jungle" on the front.

Greyhound bus suspect is an illegal immigrant who has been deported before
Authorities identified the suspect as Margarito Vargas-Rosas, an illegal immigrant who had previously been deported to Mexico. Authorities said they began chasing the bus after getting a call from someone who was on board.

Calm has since been restored at the Menlyn shopping centre following the chaotic protest earlier today, which resulted in police cordoning off the entire level on which the shop was located.

Angry protesters in South Africa targeted H&M stores on Saturday over a "racist" advertisement on the clothing company's website.

"At the East Rand Mall the protesters managed to enter the shop and stole several items".

Asked by a South African shopper via Twitter why it had only white models to promote its new African shops, H&M replied that "it's essential for us to convey a positive message" which inflamed the row further, prompting the business to apologise for an offence.

A police officer who declined to be identified in the press said members of the SAPS crowd control public order police unit had been summoned to the Kolonnade Mall, but there was no sign of the EFF members.

H&M addressed the situation in South Africa this afternoon, saying it was closing stores in the area and that store staffs had nothing to do with its aforementioned "poor judgement".

"We're deeply sorry that the picture was taken, and we also regret the actual print", it said in a statement.

The company said it had removed the image from all its marketing.

H&M said in an email Wednesday that "we completely understand and agree with the reactions by The Weeknd, G-Eazy and others".
