The plane "had a technical failure at 15:40 (1840 GMT) and crashed... in an area of operations" in Yemen, Turki al- Maliki, the spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, told AFP. The coalition, which says it takes all precautions to minimize civilian casualties, could not be reached for comment.

Saudi air defenses on Thursday intercepted a "ballistic missile" fired by Yemen's Houthi militia group towards the Saudi city of Najran near the Saudi-Yemen border, Saudi news broadcaster Al-Arabiya has reported.

Yemen has been since March 2015 under a brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition, in a bid to restore power to fugitive former president Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.
