Power Outage at CES 2018 in Las Vegas: Here's What Happened

Late morning on Wednesday, the power went down in a main hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center, sending thousands of vendors and visitors outdoors or to other venues.

Daily Dot technology reporter Phillip Tracy was on site at the Las Vegas Convention Center when it happened.

Guests and exhibitors were surprised when the power went out at the Las Vegas Convention center shortly after 11 a.m. on the second day of the CES.

CES said in a statement that the outage was caused by "condensation from heavy rainfall" that sparked a flashover on one of the building's transformers. "We are working with the power company to restore power as soon as possible".

CES participants didn't have to visit the club to come across the robots; images were prevalent on social media searches for CES-related posts.

Rick Rohmer, a product engineer with electrical-systems specialist Legrand, said the power outage affected only part of a booth for Qi, a consortium of companies that make wireless chargers.
