Could Huawei smartphone deal fail spell full-blown Sino-US trade war?

Huawei had been set to launch its new flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, with AT&T in February. 45 of the world's 50 biggest wireless carriers are customers of Huawei, according to ot the Wall Street Journal. In it, concerns were raised over the major USA telecommunications carrier's collaboration with Huawei.

The dispute stems from earlier filings by the company in 2016, in both China and the us, that deal with 20 patents pertaining to wireless communication, operating systems and UI elements.

Among the deals killed recently by the multi-agency Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) were Ant Financial's plan to buy U.S. money transfer company MoneyGram International Inc (MGI.O), the purchase by China-backed Canyon Bridge Capital Partners LLC of a U.S. chip maker and plans by Zhongwang USA, backed by a Chinese aluminum tycoon, to buy a U.S. aluminum maker.

Although OnePlus has already made a name for itself for releasing more affordable Android flagship phones, its handsets are still pretty much under the radar in the U.S. This is because the best way to gain traction in the country is by selling phones through carriers, as pointed out by Android Police.
