Mexico Travel Warning 2018: 5 Places You Should NOT Visit

The US state department has warned tourists to "completely avoid" five states in Mexico because of rampant crime levels and gang activity.

Among those listed in the recent travel, advisory are Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, Sinaloa and Tamaulipas, with state officials cautioning travelers to reconsider their trips to an additional 11 states.

Weeks after Mexico recorded its most murderous year on record, the United States urged its citizens not to visit five violence-plagued Mexican states, placing them in the same danger category as war-torn Somalia, Afghanistan and Syria.

Overall, the country received a Level 2 rating, which urges Americans to "exercise increased caution" and notes that "violent crime, such as homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery, is widespread".

OR physicians urge flu patients to call first due to overcrowding
There have been 11,515 cases of influenza reported this season, with 2,455 reported between December 31, 2017 and January 6, 2018. It is still too soon to say just how bad this flu season will be, but the CDC believes it could reach near epidemic levels.

The level three advisory was offered to most areas in Mexico City, Jalisco (where Guadalajara is located), as well as the Puerto Vallarta resorts and lakeside expat community of Chapala and Ajijic.

The advisory delivered a stark reminder of the formerly ritzy seaside resort city Acapulco fall from grace.

The advisories cite drug cartel activity and violent crime, and the Tamaulipas warning was very blunt.

However, at least two Mexican resorts - Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Acapulco - are in a do-not-travel state, Guerrero, and previous year, the State Department extended a total ban on personal travel by USA government personnel there.

However, the rate of homicide in Colima has seen a serious increase in recent years rising to Mexico's most unsafe states with 83.3 murders per 100,000 inhabitants last year due to the expansion of drug organizations such as the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel.

In a statement, Mexico's Tourism Ministry noted that more than 28 of its most popular tourism destinations for global travelers have no restrictions.

While high-profile killings in certain hot spots have gotten media attention, Mexico's homicide rate is actually closer to the middle of the pack than the top, compared to other nations in the hemisphere.

The violence has even encroached on the long-safe tourist havens of Cancun and Los Cabos, where in December the bodies of four men were found hanging from a highway overpass.

Breitbart announced Tuesday that Bannon would step down from his post as executive chairman of the site, a position he first held between 2012 and August 2016.

Earlier this week, Tourism Secretary Enrique De la Madrid said, "In my opinion, the most important challenge we have in the tourism sector are crime events occurring where they didn't before, for example in Cancun, la Paz and Los Cabos".
