Packers promote Brian Gutekunst to general manager

Brian Gutekunst, current director of player personnel, will fill the GM role previously held by Ted Thompson, according to National Football League reporter Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

The Green Bay Packers are staying in house by replacing Ted Thompson as General Manager with 44 year old Brian Gutekunst.

Gutekunst has been with the Packers since 1998, when he joined the club as a college scout.

GOP Comes Out Ahead In Toss-Up Virginia Election
Simonds appeared to have lost the November election by 10 votes, but on December 19, she won a recount by a single vote. The drawing drew a large, if lopsided, crowd to the Virginia elections board meeting.

Gutekunst spent the last two seasons as the director of player personnel after spending 17 seasons in the team's scouting department.

Gutekunst interned in the Packers' scouting department in the summer of 1997. One of the rumors was that Green Bay could have Gutekunst split the GM role with Russ Ball.

"My goal is to find the right person and general manager who will be able to get us back to where we all think we should be and that's winning Super Bowls", team president Mark Murphy, who led the search, said last week.

They might be hoping for a giant-killing, but Moyes will be determined that it doesn't happen. Confidence is growing at Huddersfield Town's next Premier League opponents, West Ham United .

Green Bay reached out to Seattle, according to reports, and requested an interview with Schneider, but were denied the opportunity by the Seahawks.

The Packers, who finished a 7-9 campaign - their first losing season and playoff miss since 2008 - have undergone an organizational shift since the season ended. In addition to Gutekunst's promotion, another familiar face, Joe Philbin, is reportedly returning for a second stint under coach Mike McCarthy after serving as offensive coordinator from 2007-2011.
