Republican Senators seek criminal probe of Trump 'dossier' author

Prior to this revelation, many had believed that it was the Trump-Russia dossier, compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele, that had prompted the investigation.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, of Iowa, who chairs the Judiciary Committee, and Lindsey Graham, of SC, sent a short letter along with a classified memo to FBI director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein saying they believed former British spy Christopher Steele violated a federal law in relation to statements he made about the distribution of claims from the 35-page dossier.

Graham, Grassley and some other Republicans have used official resources to investigate the Steele dossier, Trump critics and officials working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Mueller.

The Judiciary Committee is conducting one of the three congressional investigations into Russian interference, and the controversial dossier has come under scrutiny.

The referral comes after Republicans in Congress have made several attempts in recent weeks to undermine the credibility of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, the Justice Department and the FBI, charging there is anti-Trump bias within the ranks of federal agents and prosecutors.

Arsenal vs Chelsea: Controversy as Bellerin rescues point for Gunners
Both sides failed to take their chances in the first half of the game, with Alvaro Morata guilty of missing clear cut issues. Wenger was speaking after a pulsating and at times controversial 2-2 draw with Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

The referral was made Thursday but revealed Friday.

House Intelligence Chair Devin Nunes struck a deal with the DOJ to obtain documents related to the Trump dossier: Nunes was able to obtain the documents following months of subpoenas and letters he had sent to the Department of Justice, and Democrats and Republicans are now reportedly working together to obtain equal access to these documents.

"Everyone needs to follow the law and be truthful in their interactions with the FBI", Grassley is quoted as saying in the letter.

There are now three ongoing congressional investigations into allegations of Russian interference in the election and complicity by Donald Trump's campaign team. "But. I feel obliged to pass that information along to the Justice Department for appropriate review." Sen.

The Judiciary Committee has not interviewed Steele.

A unique phenomenon that humans will be able to observe "blood moon"
On January 2, the moon rose as a perigree full moon, when its orbit is closest to Earth, so it looks larger and brighter. The peak of the shower was January 3, a waning full moon may interfere with observing these meteors, NASA stated.

The statement from Graham and Grassley goes on to say that the referral "does not pertain to the veracity of claims contained in the dossier" and that it "is not meant to be an allegation of a crime".

Fusion GPS didn't immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

"Trump fans will complain about Christopher Steele or Hillary Clinton, but Donald Trump is the most powerful man on the planet and the investigation into him is a long way from being over". "We should all be skeptical in the extreme". "I don't take lightly making a referral for criminal investigation", Sen.

The statement notes that the referral "is not meant to be an allegation of a crime".
