Now Public Health England have revealed there has been a sharp rise in cases triggered by a surge in two aggressive sub-types of flu.

And now, the Irish health service has confirmed that the "Aussie Flu" had led to a number of deaths in the country.

Daily Star Online recently revealed shocking figures that show 1,111 people have been struck down by the flu in the last week - a startling 156% spike.

Aussie Flu has also targeted the United Kingdom, where it was revealed that nine people were admitted to intensive care or dependency unit with the potentially killer strain.

Dr Kevin Kelleher, from the Health Protection department, said: "There have been a few deaths already, under 10 people have died so far this year".

The number of flu-related deaths recorded in Ireland so far is under ten, with the HSE urging people to get vaccinated against it.
