Iliza Shlesinger sued for turning away men at women-only comedy show

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the victor of Last Comic Standing was sued by a 21-year-old man who was turned away from her California show.

A California man is suing Iliza Shlesinger, as well as the Largo theater, and a bunch of parties involved with ownership and operation of that theater after he says he was denied entry to a "Girls Night" show.

George and a friend tried to attend Iliza Shlesinger's comedy show in November, an employee at the theatre said the California man and his companion would have to sit in the back of the theatre.

According to the venue's description of the event, it was meant to be a "hybrid stand up show and interactive discussion between Iliza and the women in the audience aimed at giving women a place to vent in a supportive, fun and inclusive environment".

November Indiana Employment Report
Counties with an unemployment rate above eight percent included McDowell (8.4%), Mingo (8.8%) and Calhoun (9.5%). California had an unemployment rate of 4 percent and the nation's was at 3.9 percent for the same time period.

"When 21-year-old George St. George saw this, he still made a decision to buy a ticket for another male friend and himself - despite the show's explanation that states, "[Iliza] invites women (emphasis ours) of all walks of life to come, laugh with her and at her and be ready to share and feel safe for an awesome night of comedy and love".

He says the night "can best be described as akin to the Montgomery City Lines bus company in Montgomery, Alabama circa 1955". In his lawsuit, it began with a quote from George Orwell's Animal Farm.

What do you think of the lawsuit against Iliza Shlesinger? He also claims the women-only show "repudiated hundreds of years of women's struggles to be viewed as being equal to men", calling it "old-fashioned sexism" in the 14-page complaint.

Shlesinger performs her show at the Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles, California. He once told CNN he filed 150 complaints against businesses violating the Unruh Civil Rights Act of 1959.

In July, she was accused of slapping D'Agostino in a restaurant but told Andy Cohen that the allegations were not true. At the time, it was reported that she kicked a police officer and said, "I'm going to kill you all".

St. George has been involved as a plaintiff in several lawsuits that challenge "ladies' nights" at bars and other establishments, according to Variety, which also reported Rava has filed similar suits.

Shlesinger's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

St. George is seeking compensation for costs incurred (including attorney fees), an order for Shlesinger to undergo "sensitivity training regarding sex discrimination", an injunction barring the defendants from engaging in unequal treatment of customers, and "damages in amounts to be proven at trial".
