Former five-star Ole Miss QB Shea Patterson is transferring to MI

If Patterson, is eligible, he will be the starter and could make MI the favorites in the Big Ten.

The former five-star prospect and No. 1-ranked quarterback in the class of 2016 announced his decision to transfer from Ole Miss to MI on Monday via Twitter.

Patterson was one of the Rebels' prized recruits for the 2016 recruiting class. While the NCAA announced all Ole Miss seniors could transfer without sitting out the requisite season, other players will have to appeal to the NCAA first.

A noted MI fan as a youngster, Patterson's grandfather, George Patterson, played in the National Basketball Association for the Detroit Pistons.

Surrounded by a talented receiving corps in a new offense under coordinator Phil Longo - with head coach Hugh Freeze gone in the summer - Patterson completed 63.8 percent for 2,259 yards, 17 TDs and nine interceptions in seven games this season, with the Rebels boasting a 3-4 record in those games. In his three games in 2016, he threw for 880 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.

If not, he would have to sit out next season, but he does still have a redshirt season available to him, so he wouldn't lose any eligibility if he has to sit out. After a knee injury cost him the final five games of 2017, Patterson is expected to be healthy enough to play. Ole Miss went 1-2 in those games. Patterson can make jaw-dropping plays, but he also makes too many mistakes and can try to do too much, with up-and-down accuracy.
