December 09-A single-engine plane with four people aboard crashed into a Clairemont home Saturday, killing two passengers and causing the house to go up in flames, San Diego police said.

The pilot reported shortly about the catastrophic engine failure after the takeoff from Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport to the east, as per the chief Brian Fennesy at San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The single-engine, six-seat Beech BE36 Bonanza had taken off from Montgomery Field about a half mile away. The impact caused the house to burst into flames. The two survivors were transported to a nearby hospital with burn injuries.

Neighbors tried to get into the house, but said the doors were locked.

Neighbors said a family with a young baby are renting the house.

Less than two minutes after the crash, fire crews arrived and it took about 30 minutes to knock down the fire, KFMB reports. Witnesses said the plane had some sort of engine trouble before crashing. He ran toward the flames and helped break the windows. Authorities said at an afternoon press conference two of the four people on board were killed in the crash.
