'Lies and Spurious Claims': Australian Actor Rush Files Suit Against Newspaper

The Oscar victor is seeking damages after the news publication reported allegations that the actor behaved inappropriately towards a female cast member during a 2015 production of KING LEAR. "They have splashed spurious claims with bombastic titles on their front pages", Rush said.

"This has caused irreparable damage to my reputation".

During a press conference this afternoon with his lawyers, the 66-year-old revealed that proceedings had already been lodged in the Federal Court.

Singer is best known for directing several of the X-Men films, as well as; The Usual Suspects , Superman Returns , and Valkyrie. He ultimately dropped the lawsuit , saying that while his claims had merit, he could not find a new lawyer to represent him.


Rush denied the allegations in a statement to the Daily Telegraph issued through his lawyers.

Geoffrey Rush's loyal fans have rushed to show the oscar victor their support after he announced he's filed a law suit against a media company who published allegations of "inappropriate behaviour" against him.

"The situation is intolerable and I must seek vindication of my good name through the courts", Geoffrey continued.

When asked about the claims being leveled against Rush, Australian actress Rachel Griffiths said the actor "is not Harvey Weinstein" - referencing the Hollywood mogul who faces multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. "It must be made clear from the outset that Mr Rush abhors any form of maltreatment of any person in any form". Details of the complaint have not been made public.

Rush is one of Australia's most respected exports, starring in acclaimed films like Shakespeare in Love, Elizabeth and The King's Speech.

Chris Dore, the editor of the Daily Telegraph, said they would be defending the newspaper's reporting in court, reported the ABC.
