Google shuts chrome apps section for Mac and Windows users

Google already announced previous year that it will be pulling down the shutters on its Chrome Apps sometime in 2017. ChromeStory has found the web portal for Chrome Remote Desktop at, where it appears to have options to both gain access to someone's device, or give access to your device to someone else for tech support.

In a change from the original plan, Google won't immediately remove Chrome Apps support on Windows, Mac, and Linux by Q1 2018. This extension enables you to install, view, and modify the Chrome Remote Desktop native client from the web UI. Once this functionality ships (roughly targeting mid-2018), users will be able to install web apps to the desktop and launch them via icons and shortcuts; similar to the way that Chrome Apps can be installed today. Since Chrome apps are soon to be deprecated completely early next year, this web portal and its accompanying extension replace the app.

The Chrome browser will continue to load packaged and hosted apps on Windows, Mac, and Linux beyond the previously announced deprecation timeline. This is the plug-in point for password managers, script and ad blockers, mail checkers, and even the occasional fully fledged app, like Google Hangouts for Chrome. Existing apps will continue to work and receive updates.

PWAs already work on the Chrome app for Android devices.

Progressive Web Apps is a Google technology which lets developers create web applications which look and act just like proper desktop applications. The more powerful Chrome Apps were "packaged apps", which could run in the background and access hardware like USB ports.

This concept is already working on Android - via the Samsung browser, Firefox and Opera.

Scientists: Eating cheese reduces the risk of developing heart disease
Researchers suggest that 40 grams (a bite, or two slices) daily is the magic amount of lactose to keep those heart muscles strong. Dutch and Chinese scientists examined dietary data from more than 200,000 people and came up with a surprising result.

Google has taken this decision since only 1 percent of users actively using Chrome packaged apps.
