Governor to call election to fill Conyers' seat

Governor to call election to fill Conyers' seat

Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), the subject of a number of recent sexual harassment and abuse allegations, announced on a local radio show Tuesday morning that he would be retiring from the House immediately.

Conyers, 88, made the announcement in an interview with a Detroit radio station.

None of the more than a dozen speakers said the accusers should be forgotten, only that Conyers deserves the same rights of due process that other members of Congress who have been accused of sexual harassment are receiving, Gray reports.

Following these accusations, House minority leader Nanci Pelosi eventually asked Conyers to step down, as did Rep. James E. Clyburn.

Elisa Grubbs, who says she worked for Conyers (D-Mich.) from 2001 to 2013, released the statement through lawyer Lisa Bloom on Twitter.

Trump Urging Hatch to Run Again
But the senator's office insists it's not to block former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney from getting into the race. Trump called Hatch in October to and requested he run again, sources familiar with the call told Politico .

"Given the totality of the circumstance of not being afforded the right of due process in conjunction with current health conditions, and to preserve my legacy and good name, I am retiring.

He is going to retire", Ian Conyers told The New York Times.

"We're here for due process", said the Rev. Wendell Anthony, president of the NAACP's Detroit Chapter. "Nancy Pelosi did not elect the congressman, and she sure as hell won't be the one to tell the congressman to leave".

But Conyers, who took his MI seat in 1965 and was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus, insisted that his record would not be tarnished by the accusations. This, too, shall pass.

As allegations of sexual misconduct continue to swirl around him, several of Conyers' congressional colleagues encouraged him to resign. We don't condone sexual harassment on any level, ' he said.

Cougars face Michigan State in Holiday Bowl
The response came one day after Mark Dantonio was asked about the bowl destinations for his Spartans and the Wolverines. A win in the Holiday Bowl over WSU could give Dantonio his 100 career win at Michigan State (he's now 99-45).

Conyers influenced debates over each issue as a member and, eventually, the chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee.

"With that said, there can be no tolerance for behavior that subjects women to the kind of conduct that has been alleged", Nadler added.

"When Rep. Conyers inappropriately touched me like this", said Grubbs, as reported by the paper, "my eyes would pop out and I would be stunned in disbelief".

Conyers is one of four sitting United States lawmakers hit by allegations of sexual misconduct in the wake of the accusations targeting movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, which triggered a torrent of accusations against powerful figures in the worlds of entertainment, media and politics. Since then, other prominent Democrats have urged the same. Joe Barton, R-Texas, Blake Farenthold, R-Texas, and Sen.

It will be up to Republican Gov. Rick Snyder to set a date for a special election to pick someone to serve out the remaining year in Conyers' two-year term.

Patriots' Gronkowski suspended one game for late hit
The previous time that happened was in a 17-9 loss in the 2014 season finale, when Brady played just one half. White was making a lot of contact with the tight end, but wasn't flagged for holding or pass interference.
