According to new report from Cellular Insights, iPhone X models equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon x16 LTE modem get consistently better cellular speeds than the versions with Intel's XMM7480 modem. However, in the countersuit filed on Wednesday, Apple claims to have developed its own technology and patents to power its iPhones. Apple emailed Qualcomm to request "highly confidential" information about how its chips work on an unidentified wireless carrier's network, Qualcomm alleged, but Apple had copied an Intel engineer in the email for information. Apple stopped paying Qualcomm for patent royalties and instructed its manufacturing partners to do the same which has blown over the legal tussle between the two companies. Apple's countersuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, Southern District of California, claims that Qualcomm is wrongly using some of Apple's battery life technologies. In addition to this, Qualcomm is challenging Apple's patent usage at the International Trade Commission (ITC). Qualcomm claims that they have offered to license their patents to Apple, but it has been refused every time. However, Qualcomm still believes that the dispute could be resolved outside the courts. Because the Qualcomm modem chip was much faster over LTE than the one made by Intel, Apple was forced to throttle its speed so that there wouldn't be a huge discrepancy in performance between the CDMA and GSM models.
