Bernstein: Bears Get Everything Wrong In Stupid Loss

Bernstein: Bears Get Everything Wrong In Stupid Loss

The Chicago Bears took a 14-6 second quarter lead over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in electrifying fashion, thanks to Tarik Cohen running back what has to be the best punt return of the season.

In their first four trips in scoring territory, the 49ers settled for four Robbie Gould field goals, who is a popular former Bear. For example, just before the half, the 49ers were inside the 10 and then moved right out when tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Marquise Goodwin had back-to-back false start penalties.

With Garoppolo standing tall in a generally clean pocket, the Niners offense had a much different look than it had for most of the season.

Gould was responsible for all 15 of the 49ers' points, hitting five field goals, including a 24-yarder with two seconds remaining. Barth made just 29 of his 39 field goal attempts in 26 games with the Bears. "Really, if it wasn't for them, I probably wouldn't be having the run with a lot of coaches and players that I've had the past 2 years".

Autonomous cars closer than we think

San Francisco's new quarterback returned to his home town to help beat the Bears, 15-14, while living up to the high expectations coming from his small sample size backing up Tom Brady with the Patriots for the last three-plus seasons.

"I tried to say all week that it's just a normal game", Garoppolo said.

To his credit, Gould was very classy in his remarks about his former employer, even saying the Bears are "probably the greatest sports organization, greatest group of fans I've ever been a part of".

The Bears capitalized on the turnover as Trubisky capped an eight-play, 59-yard drive with a TD strike to Inman streaking across the back of the end zone. Fox essentially handed the 49ers the win.

Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor was carted to the locker room with a knee injury early in the fourth quarter and did not return. The Patriots have turned to the Bills to fill several holes on their roster in recent years, with Lee the most recent example.

Game grades are a bit more fun after a victory, and San Francisco certainly had its share of top performers from the contest.

The 49ers have no shot at making the playoffs this season, but understanding whether or not Garoppolo can be successful in scarlet and gold will go a long way in yet another rebuilding offseason. In fact, it's hard to imagine any scenario in which Fox coaches the team next week in Cincinnati - except one: it's the Bears. The Bears should have started the drive in the red zone already leading 14-12, but Ben Braunecker was flagged for an illegal block far behind the return.

Gould, who was cut by the Chicago Bears a year ago, literally beat his old team all by himself.

"To come in here, get a win like that, and to get a game-winner, I don't think I could have written it any better to be honest with you", he said.

McMaster noted that Beijing's "tremendous coercive economic power" over North Korea. About 12,000 USA personnel and 230 aircraft will take part in the drill.

"Ryan's never reached out to me", he said. If that isn't justice, I don't know what is.
