Tesla flips on the world's largest lithium ion battery

The world's biggest battery is officially on in South Australia, allowing Tesla founder Elon Musk to meet his promise of building it within 100 days or it would be free, according to The Telegraph.

Tesla has activated a lithium-ion battery big enough to power 30,000 homes in South Australia.

The battery power packs are installed near the Outback town of Jamestown, about 200 kilometres (120 miles) north of the state capital Adelaide.

Ole Miss receives punishment for NCAA violations
Ole Miss had self-imposed both a bowl ban for this season and scholarship restrictions, but the NCAA added more to each element. But while it is a sad day for Ole Miss, it is also Day One of recovering and building for the future.

"The world's largest lithium ion battery will be an important part of our energy mix, and it sends the clearest message that South Australia will be a leader renewable energy with battery storage", Weatherill said of the battery when it was completed in November. However, supporters of the new solution say that it will help stabilize the state's power grid that derives more than 40 percent of its electricity from wind energy, but needs helps when the wind dies down, especially during summers.

Tesla partnered with Neoen to build the battery, which is more than three times larger than the previous record-holder at Mira Loma, California.

Despite having a rapidly growing wind power (than the rest of Australia), South Australia has been facing a series of blackouts in the last 18 months after a devastating storm in April and since then the government had been facing a lot of criticism, prompting it to look for a solution. The cost of the battery has not been made public.

The performance impressed leading coach Denis Pugh. "The greatest player of his generation has come back at an age when comebacks aren't normal".

Weatherill came under fire past year after the entire state went black following a major storm, and raced to shore up the state's grid with a A$510 million ($385 million) plan, including ordering the big battery and installing diesel-fueled turbines.

"Neoen and Tesla approached the State Government with their bold plan to deliver this project, and they have met all of their commitments, ensuring South Australia has back up power this summer", he added.

Being one of the world's biggest coal exporters, Australia has also always been seen as one of the world's worst polluters.

"Being involved in that game - the colour and the atmosphere around it - was one of the best days of my life", he said. And with England's route now mapped out, Southgate will be able to ramp up preparations for the 2018 tournament.
