Israeli strikes Hamas posts in Gaza after mortar fire

Israeli airplanes bombed six targets in Gaza on Thursday after Palestinian militants fired about 12 mortars at Israeli forces, according to the Israeli army. Israeli army spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said there were no casualties from the Palestinian mortar attacks.

No injuries were reported on either side of the fence dividing the Gaza Strip from Israel.

Shortly before the mortar attack, a siren went off in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip. Palestinians face near daily fire from forces while tending to their farmland near the border with Israel and while fishing within the reduced fishing area. IDF tanks and warplanes then attacked four Hamas positions near the town of Beit Hanoun located in the northeastern part of the Gaza Strip.

No group has claimed responsibility for the alleged rocket attack, while Palestinian officials have yet to issue comment regarding the army's assertions.
