Sensex plunges 453 points on fiscal deficit fears, F&O expiry

The broader NSE Nifty too slipped 8.95 points or 0.09 per cent to end at 10,361.30 after shuttling between 10,392.95 and 10,345.90.

The Sensex gained almost 100 points in the opening trade as GDP grew 6.3 per cent in the July-September quarter, with robust expansion in manufacturing, electricity production and trade and hotels sectors.

Around 1.20 pm, the wider Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) traded lower by 82.50 points or 0.80 per cent at 10,278.80 points.

Major Sensex gainers on Wednesday were: Wipro, up 1.33 per cent at Rs 297.90; Adani Ports, up 1.16 per cent at Rs 402.55; Sun Pharma, up 0.77 per cent at Rs 547.90; Hindustan Unilever, up 0.75 per cent at Rs 1,277.35; and Tata Steel, up 0.72 per cent at Rs 709.30.

The 30-share index, which had lost 575.09 points in the previous three sessions, was trading higher by 140.49 points, or 0.42 per cent, at 33,289.84. In the euro zone, Frankfurt's DAX rose 0.70 per cent, while Paris CAC rose 0.49 per cent in early deals.
