Confidential UN brief reveals no missiles sent to Houthis by Iran

Regional tensions have escalated in recent weeks between Saudi Arabia and Iran over the surprise resignation of Lebanese prime Minister Saad Hariri, and after a ballistic missile was sacked at the kingdom by Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The meeting comes two weeks after Mr Hariri resigned from Riyadh, criticising Iran's influence in his country and fearing assasination.

"Iran continues to violate Arab world's national security and we must act in order to curb Iran's policies and protect our security", Mr Al Jubeir said.

In Syria, Hezbollah has fought to defend the government of President Bashar al-Assad, also an ally of Teheran.

Hariri's abrupt resignation and continued stay in Saudi Arabia had raised concern over Lebanon's stability. Senior Lebanese politicians close to Hariri also said he was coerced into resigning.

Arab foreign ministers gathered at the League's headquarters in Cairo Sunday for an emergency meeting called by Saudi Arabia.
