Even deleted WhatsApp messages can be read; find out how

A new report claims that WhatsApp messages that are deleted are actually still on the device and can be easily accessed.

The instant messaging application WhatsApp recently created a buzz by introducing back to back new features for its users. Doing so will produce a menu with "Delete" options. There are a few limitations, however, as only the messages that have generated a notification on the device, and have been seen or interacted with, can be retrieved. Also, the log is deleted when the phone is restarted.

Also, recipients can still read the "deleted messages" on their devices despite the sender's deletion. Lastly, the notification log usually stores the information for few hours only and one will not be able to retrieve the deleted message if they have performed a restart.

You can only recover text, no images, audios or videos.

The American Civil Liberties Union posted on Facebook that "you can't prosecute speech just because it contains words you don't like".

But, WhatsApp's deleted messages can still be read. Things don't end there since WhatsApp is packed with many other features which make it easier for people to get in touch with their friends and to share files with them. After a very long wait, WhatsApp's recall message feature aka Delete for Everyone is finally here. So, a receiver can access the entire message that's been deleted and the time that happened.

Moreover, the method has a restriction that only the first 100 characters of the deleted message will be visible. It effectively means the only sure-fire way to know that a person will not see any part of a message is to just not send it.

However, during MailOnline's testing, the recipient had to have read the message before it was deleted for it to appear in the Notification Log.

You can do this by long-pressing the Settings icon, tapping the Widgets symbol that appears at the top of the pop-up window, and dragging the Settings widget to your home screen.

The Notification History application, as the name suggests, is a dashboard for all notifications that come to your phone.

According to a Spanish Android blog, Android Jefe, users' smartphones running Android 7.0 Nougat or higher version can simply download a third-party app called Notification History, which is available on Google Play.

From the list of actions under Activities, jump straight to Settings, and that's where you'll find your Notification log. In such cases there is no need to download a third-party app to access deleted messages. However, you're safe if you accidentally sent a photo or video to someone you shouldn't have, and deleted it afterwards.
