Stabbed At Mall of America; Suspect Arrested

Family members were apparently able to disarm the suspect and Bloomington police took the suspect into custody.

Police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman.

Local police told reporters the suspect had attempted to steal from a man in the fitting rooms before stabbing him and a male relative who was trying to help.

Multiple people were stabbed inside the Mall of America on Sunday night, leaving families and kids stunned as they waited to see Santa.

The incident took place in the dressing room area on the first floor of Macy's, the Associated Press reports.

Kim Schwieters and her children were waiting to see Santa Claus near the entrance to Macy's when she saw police officers running toward the store with their guns drawn, the Star-Tribune reports.

Witnesses also reported seeing Abdirahaman acting strangely before the attack. "Some other shoppers ran towards the screaming, and someone (who I believe was the victim's brother) yelled '911!' I called the police and hid". He's being held on two counts of first-degree assault.

Both of the stabbing victims, according to CBS News, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. "He got me!'. I knew something was not right", Situma wrote.
