Liverpool's Mane suffers injury scare on Senegal duty

For the second worldwide break in a row, Liverpool star Sadio Mane has got injured.

The forward had spent a month on the sidelines after sustaining the injury with the Teranga Lions in October before returning to club action in the 4-1 win over West Ham on November 4.

Liverpool have been a dealt possible injury setback after Senegal star Sadio Mane left global duty early, following concerns of a relapse of his previous injury.

Mane, who has scored 16 goals in 32 Premier League starts since joining Liverpool last summer, is due back at England on Tuesday morning, having been released by Senegal.

While the job was done against South Africa, it came at a price for Liverpool after Mane suffered a slight return of his old injury, a Senegal statement read.

Mane was released by Senegal and is on his way back to Merseyside to be assessed by Liverpool medical staff after complaining of a slight niggle relating to a previous problem, also picked up while on global duty in October. It remains to be seen if Mane will be fit enough to face his former team this weekend.

Liverpool will be hoping he can recover in time for Saturday's home fixture against Southampton, although the length of his potential absence has not been disclosed yet.

Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne have all swapped the Saints for the Reds in recent seasons.
