Lorenzo sets pace in 2nd FP for Valencia MotoGP

Moto GP World Champion victor Marc Marquez of Spain celebrates on the podium after finishing third at the Valencia Motorcycle Grand Prix, the last race of the season, at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Cheste near Valencia, Spain, Sunday Nov. 12, 2017.

And Dovizioso's fate was sealed when he crashed out five laps from the end.

Marquez, who produced a wonderful save to avoid crashing out himself shortly before Dovizioso's race-ending incident, finished third to win the title by 37 points.

Yet, Ducati's hopes of usurping Marquez were quickly undone as Jorge Lorenzo and then Dovizioso both crashed out as they paid the price for pushing at the limit for the whole race.

Zarco surpassed Pedrosa in the second lap, chasing Marquez, who conceded the lead in the fourth lap, as the latter was focusing on the world title rather than the race.

The permutations were not lost on Marquez during a tactical opening few laps.

Pulling the pin, Pedrosa left Zarco with no answer on the final lap to take his second win of the year.

Private "pull-asides" at summit meetings have drawn criticisms of Barack Obama and previous presidents who have engaged in them. Part of the answer could be that Trump is easily flattered by foreign leaders if they praise him, as Clapper noted.

However, Marquez recovered to rejoin the race in fifth and, nearly as soon as a Lorenzo error had Dovizioso in the clear, the 31-year-old blew what remained of his slim chances.

Marquez ended the session in the fifth spot, with a time of one minute and 31.511 seconds, just behind Ducati's rider Dovizioso, but ahead of fellow Spaniard Maverick Viñales.

Dovizioso, an Italian rider for Ducati, has won six races this season despite not starting from pole position once.

Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) put in an impressive rookie ride into fourth, ahead of Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) after a more hard race for the "Doctor". Lastly, Aleix Esparagaro will start behind Rossi followed by Suzuki Ecstar rider Alex Rins at P10. Andrea Iannone (Suzuki Ecstar) +14.516s 7. Iannone dropped back slightly after a run off at Turn 1 to take sixth, ahead of a great final race with EG 0,0 Marc VDS for Jack Miller in P7. Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) +17.230s 9.
