Goodell's absurd contract demands leak, and this is getting ugly

Goodell's absurd contract demands leak, and this is getting ugly

The conference call, first reported Saturday by The New York Times, marks the first call since Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones voiced his displeasure about the contract extension that the committee has been discussing. However, NFL spokesperson Joe Lockhart denies that that is all Goodell asked for.

One NFL executive proposed to Schefter and Mortensen that Goodell not be permitted to earn a higher salary than the highest-paid player in the NFL, which would be around $25 million.

Goodell's current contract runs out in March of 2019 and the commish and owners are now working on a five-year contract extension.

14 feared drowned in Andhra Pradesh boat mishap
There were 38 tourists on boat belonging to a private operator and coming to Pavitra Sangam at Ibrahimpatnam from Bhavani Island. They said that the passengers were stuck beneath the boat and despite having the life jackets they were struggling to come out.

"That number for Roger just seems too much", said one anonymous owner to ESPN.

"The only element of the ESPN report that is true is that there is a regularly scheduled Compensation Committee conference call on Monday". Jerry already had only a handful of guys backing him on this (calling for Goodell's job), and he is isolating himself more and more by doing things this way.

Those owners surely hope that the group grows, and leaks like this one won't hurt that effort. Goodell spoke about the NFL's failure to address domestic violence, sexual assault and drug abuse in the league. One owner said, "You don't get to have this many messes over the years like Roger has had and survive it". "He can stand to show some humility, but he won't listen to staff". Through a letter from Cowboys counsel, Jones said Blank, who is the head of the NFL's compensation committee, misled the league's 32 owners about the details of the contract and that the owners are not unanimous on Goodell's extension, according to an ESPN report.

Saudi Arabia dealt in Yemen airstrike
More than 2,000 Yemenis have died in a cholera outbreak now affecting almost one million people. A number of houses were also reportedly damaged in the strike. "The house has been destroyed".

It really should not be that big of a surprise to these owners that Goodell is asking for an exorbitant out of money.

Yet there are issues that others owners aside from Jones are aware of, and they are wrestling now with how to best handle it.

Although the contract figure seems exorbitant to many including Jones, it isn't at the root of Jones' mission to remove Goodell from his post, as Pro Football Weekly reported Wednesday.
