England's Eric Dier satisfied with Germany draw

It was a night of experimentation, a time to blood the youngsters in a game that could be the start of a new-look England team and a 0-0 draw with world champions Germany was a decent outcome.

The Three Lions fielded an inexperienced eleven with three players making their maiden global appearances, Tammy Abraham joining Loftus-Cheek and Pickford, and totalling just 101 caps with only five players on 10 or more.

Both Cook and Solanke were part of England Under-20's World Cup triumph in the summer.

The Crystal Palace player, on loan from Chelsea, was a mixture of the elegant and the efficient for England, passing and moving so intelligently.

And Loftus-Cheek impressed throughout, staking his claim for a spot in Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad next summer. I had Gareth for three years in Under-21s, so it wasn't too much of a new thing coming here.


Loftus-Cheek was pivotal to the endeavour, creativity and steel displayed by England's inexperienced side at Wembley.

"I'm really not surprised because of what I saw before those boys came in and what I've seen in training".

Dominic Solanke, Lewis Cook and Angus Gunn have been drafted into the England squad for the first time after Phil Jones became the eighth player to withdraw from Gareth Southgate's group.

"If we won it would have been better but I'm really happy", he told ITV Sport.
