UCF strength of schedule hinders move up in College Football Playoff rankings

If history repeats itself, at least one of those teams will not make the playoffs, so which team will take their place?

The top five teams this week, as chosen by the 13-member selection committee, were identical to the top five teams a week ago, with Georgia (9-0) holding the No. 1 spot, followed by No. 2 Alabama (9-0), No. 3 Notre Dame (8-1) and No. 4 Clemson (8-1). Oklahoma and TCU have a showdown on Saturday, with the Sooners 7-point home favorites for the Big 12 matchup. Auburn, which is still in the hunt for the SEC West title, goes against a Georgia team trying to maintain its grip on the CFP's top spot.

8 TCU AT 5 OKLAHOMA (7 P.M., FOX): The new Heisman Trophy frontrunner, OU's Baker Mayfield, and the nation's top-ranked offense face TCU's top-ranked defense.

Of those six teams, three have been outside the top eight in the second edition of the College Football Rankings. All five won last weekend, and three of them - Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma - defeated ranked teams. No. 10 last week when the committee issued its first list of the season, leapfrogged its fellow unbeaten, Wisconsin (9-0), to take over No. 7 while Wisconsin held down No. 8.

Here's a complete look at the top 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings entering this weekend. And guess what? They play TCU this weekend.

However, that deserves to be overlooked for any undefeated team in one of the premier conferences in college football, especially with the Big 10, who many thought a team such as Ohio State, Penn State or MI would prevail over.
