Kaepernick was offered meeting with National Football League commissioner a week ago, hasn't responded

News broke on November 7 that the NFL's Executive Vice President of Football Operations, Troy Vincent, had sent an October 31 text message inviting the former San Francisco 49ers player to NY to a private meeting with Goodell.

Per Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Kaepernick's attorney, Mark Geragos, said their camp responded to the invite immediately but wanted a mediator present because of the grievance filed against the owners. "Because of the grievance we asked that a mediator be present". This isn't about a mediator. The question of, 'Has [Colin] been invited in?', the answer is yes. Sports on Tuesday. "This isn't part of any grievance process".

Kaepernick's actions launched similar protests by hundreds of players who began standing against the country, the flag, and our first responders during the anthem, protests that have now plagued the league since last season. He filed a "collusion" case against the league last month alleging team owners colluded to prevent him from signing an NFL contract.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon believes Colin Kaepernick has destroyed his NFL career by filing a lawsuit against the league for collusion.

Lockhart fired back after that claim, telling Yahoo Sports: "Troy reached out to Colin directly - not to his lawyer - and said, 'If you want to come in, come in.' This isn't about his lawyer". "We don't need a third party".

A permanent solution to the issue would mean compromise, with the league actually giving the players something in order to persuade them to stand for the anthem.

Basically, the issue appears to be over the presence of a mediator.

After filing the grievance, Kaepernick tweeted that he did so "only after pursuing every possible avenue with all National Football League teams and their executives". As Kaepernick's attorney noted, "a mediator would ensure that the discussions were productive and confidential and not used as a public relations stunt or prop by the league".

Patriots Claim TE Martellus Bennett Off Waivers
For the time being, his departure leaves the Packers with two tight ends, Lance Kendricks and Richard Rodgers , on their roster. Bennett thrived in his one season with the Patriots catching 55 passes for 701 yards and seven touchdowns.

On a separate note, it's also unwise for Kaepernick and Vincent (or any other league officials) to be communicating directly, given the pending grievance.

The request specifies mediation, which the players would like to begin the week of November 13 if the National Football League agrees to this process.

Kaepernick was texted on October 31 by the National Football League's executive vice president of football operations, Troy Vincent, about talks players and owners had been having about several social issues, league spokesman Joe Lockhart told ESPN Tuesday.
