Well, not anymore. Today, EA has announced that it has acquired Respawn Entertainment for a cool $315 million in cash and stock, plus a possible bonus of $140 million.

This news comes not too long after EA had chose to shut down Visceral Games with the publisher wanting to focus its future titles on a system similar to games like Destiny 2.

Respawn Entertainment, which was built by Call of Duty designers Vince Zampella and Jason Ward after a falling out with Activision in 2010, has been purchased by Mega Publisher Electronic Arts for nearly half a billion dollars.

Regarding this acquisition, Zampella said, "We have worked together a long time from the inception of the studio".

In addition to a new Titanfall game, Respawn is working on an untitled game set in the Star Wars universe and a virtual reality first-person combat experience for Oculus. "For fans, my message is we are still Respawn and we are going to make things better", said Zampella. "This is a great next step for Respawn, EA, and our players". The deal was confirmed by Respawn CEO Vince Zampella in an interview with GamesBeat. Furthermore, EA outbid Nexon's bid to buy Respawn, with EA given 30 days to match the offer due to their contractual obligations.
