Colombia Seizes More Than 13 Tons Of Cocaine In Historic Drug Bust

The cocaine was found underground on four farms.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos announced Wednesday that police recently seized 12 tons of cocaine, the biggest single drug-seizure in Colombia's history.

Colombia has claimed its biggest ever cocaine haul - and put the whole 12 tons on display.

In the post to Instagram , shared October 13th, Spears can be seen in a cleavage-baring top partially covered by a paint-splattered painter's shirt.


"Thanks to a police operation with overseas intelligence, from friendly countries, the largest seizure in history was made", Santos said at a police base.

Four people were arrested during the three-day operation leading to the drug seizure, according to a police statement.

For those playing at home, that equates to a staggering $360 million United States dollars or £274 million street value.

This haul reportedly belonged to Dairo Úsuga, the leader of the powerful Gulf Clan, which said in September that it is ready to submit itself to justice. In 2016, authorities confiscated 360 tons of the illicit drug. The United Nations reckons Colombia produces as much as 646 tons of the drug each year. Both say coca and cocaine production surged previous year in Colombia.

The previous record for a single cocaine haul in Colombia was just under eight tons, which were seized-again from Úsuga's gang, and again from a banana plantation-in May a year ago. The outfit has been a longtime rival of other armed groups in Colombia.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos praised the authorities for the work done to combat drug trafficking in the country.
