Raghu Rajan Not Interested In AAP's Rajya Sabha Offer, Prefers Academics

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is considering nominating former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan for one of its three Rajya Sabha seats accrued by the party after its win in the Delhi Assembly Election 2015, according to reports.

Rajan, who now teaches at the University of Chicago, was not chosen for a second term as RBI governor by the Narendra Modi government despite him expressing his interest for the same.

However a party MLA told News18 that a few leaders met Kejriwal last month and said that if the party gives the Rajya Sabha ticket to Kumar Vishwas then the image of the party would not be perceived positively.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's party is entitled to three members in the Upper House whose term will begin in January. If media reports are to be believed, Raghuram Rajan is considering the offer of Rajay Sabha seat made by AAP.

A report by India Today said that those who have been approached by AAP have requested for secrecy till they confirm their willingness to be the party's Rajya Sabha candidate.

According to a top United States magazine, President Donald Trump could announce his new chief of Federal Reserve, and Rajan stands a chance of being chosen for this post. Highly qualified and once served the head of RBI, Raghuram Rajan, who is presently working as a professor in Chicago, had reservations about the demonetisation drive. However, in 2015, AAP swept the elections and is now running the government.
