Niantic is reportedly building an augmented reality Harry Potter game

Niantic announced the new game is called "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite" and it is again going to make use of augmented reality.

Wizards Unite, co-developed by Warner Bros. Interactive's new Potter-focused sub brand, Portkey Games, which has the most terrific company name of all-time.

Do you expect Harry Potter: Wizard's Unite to capture the nation's attention in the same way that Pokemon GO did?

A Harry Potter game by Niantic was rumored to exist a year ago, but those rumors turned out to be fake.

Whether it will have the same boom in popularity that Pokémon Go enjoyed is a whole other thing entirely. While Harry Potter is not almost as culturally ubiquitous as it was at the height of its popularity, WB could easily revive interest with the right games. If you're a fan of the Harry Potter franchise, this is likely something that you won't want to miss, and it's coming in 2018. The game is now in development for iOS and Android devices for a 2018 release.
