Intel CPU packaged with AMD GPU to take on Nvidia

The new design will be the first consumer product to use Intel's Embedded Multi-Die Interconnect Bridge (EMIB), a new high-speed connector that can quickly pass information between the CPU, GPU and High Bandwidth Memory. This new product will reduce the silicon footprint to half allowing OEMs to design thin and light designs with improved thermal dissipation. The benefits of EMIB were clear, without the drawbacks of standard MCP design or the cost of interposers: it would also allow a design to go beyond the monolithic reticle limit of standard lithography processes.

Computer chip makers Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. have been intense rivals ever since they were each founded in the late 1960s in the earliest days of Silicon Valley, but now the two companies are teaming up to take on a much younger threat: Nvidia Corp. While Intel has always been the dominant player in the PC chip market, leaving AMD in second place for decades, it hasn't been successful in the graphics chip market.

Dana White Discusses a Potential TJ Dillashaw vs. Demetrious Johnson Fight Next
Referee Dan Miragliotta stepped in to separate them as it appeared Dillashaw was saved by the bell. Garbrandt was a step ahead of Cruz the whole way and dictated the pacing of the fight.

Intel says its new design is for the relatively small, specialized "enthusiast" market of gamers who play on laptops. Currently, most of the high-performance laptops have Intel Core H-series processors combined with a high-end discrete graphics from AMD or NVIDIA. For additional information on the product, see: https://newsroom.intel.com/editorials/new-intel-core-processor-combine-high-performance-cpu-discrete-graphics-sleek-thin-devices/. Today, Intel announced its new Core H-series processors, featuring Intel's own CPU cores, as well as a semi-custom GPU design from AMD's Radeon Technologies Group, all on the same chip. "Together we are offering gamers and content creators the opportunity to have a thinner-and-lighter PC capable of delivering discrete performance-tier graphics experiences in AAA games and content creation applications".

"[It] enables system designers to adjust the ratio of power sharing between the processor and graphics based on workloads and usages, like performance gaming", writes Chris Walker, Intel VP of the Client Computing Group and general manager of the Mobile Client Platform.

White House threat prompts Secret Service response; 1 suspect in custody
The Secret Service said Ervin Pettaway, 33, of Washington , D.C., was charged with one count of felony threats. The White House was briefly placed on lockdown around the time of the reported suspicious activity.

The idea came from Intel, which approached AMD about collaborating on a new chip, executives from both companies told PCWorld.

Drivers for the new hybrid will be created by Intel, although its engineers will be working closely with AMD to make sure "day one" drivers for the Radeon GPU work as expected. Users can expect to hear more regarding the new processor alongside products powered by it within the first quarter of 2018.
